Subhadeep Karak

Subhadeep Karak is an Assistant Director of Agriculture in the W.B.A.S. (Admn.) cadre, Government of West Bengal. An agronomist and remote sensing specialist, he focuses on climate-smart agriculture, soil and nutrient management, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from agricultural systems, precision farming, hydroponics, and geospatial applications for sustainable land resource management. He holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Agriculture and an M.Sc. in Agronomy from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal.

Previously, Mr. Karak served as a Research Scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)–National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad, where he contributed to GHG quantification, process-based modeling, soil resource database development, and remote sensing–based assessments of crops and soils. He also worked as a Technical Scientist at Action for Climate, Dr. Reddy’s, gaining industry experience in regenerative agriculture, carbon farming, technical content development, and capacity building.

Mr. Karak has authored 13 research and review papers, three books, and 15 popular articles and booklets, and holds one patent in agricultural innovation. He has participated in 23 national and international trainings, seminars, conferences, and workshops, and has received three notable honors, including the Best M.Sc. Thesis Award and the Young Agriculturist Award. He has served as a resource person for multiple training programs, appeared on Doordarshan TV, and contributed as a rapporteur and manuscript editor for professional publications. Through his combined experience in research, extension, and public administration, he advances evidence-based, farmer-centric development initiatives for the country.
