Ms. Swati Suman is a Ph.D. Scholar at Centurion University of Technology and Management, Odisha. She holds a B.Sc. (Agriculture) and an M.Sc. (Agriculture) in Agricultural Extension Education from Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS), Prayagraj, and qualified
UGC-NET in 2024. Her doctoral research, grounded in a Participatory–Anthropological–Interdisciplinary (PAI) perspective, explores the complex relationship between cultural dynamics and climate resilience in tribal family farming systems, with particular emphasis on indigenous knowledge, intergenerational knowledge transmission, gender roles, cultural institutions and community-based adaptation practices.
Her scholarly interests encompass tribal and indigenous agriculture, family farming, agricultural extension, rural livelihoods, indigenous technical knowledge and climate-resilient agricultural systems. As part of her doctoral research, she has undertaken extensive field investigations among tribal communities across Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal, employing ethnographic, participatory and mixedmethod approaches to explore agricultural practices and knowledge systems within their socio-cultural contexts. Her methodological expertise includes PRA, ethnographic inquiry, FGDs, key informant interviews, social network analysis, qualitative and quantitative research, and bibliometric analysis. Her research contributions have appeared in various Scopus- and NAAS-indexed journals,
and she has presented her work at several academic conferences, including recognition as a Best Oral Presenter. She has also contributed to academic publishing as the editor of Spices of India: A Journey through History, Sciences and Uses.
