Olericulture or Vegetable culture in India plays a very vital role not only towards providing the nutritional security to the nation but also to compete with International market for vegetable trade. Although, presently India ranks second in position with both area and production of vegetables in the world next only to China, but the the productivity of most of the Indian vegetable crops are very low as compared to the other foreign countries. Hence necessary technologies should be adopted to increase the production & productivity of the vegetable crops not only to feed the population but also to compete the International trade for quality vegetable produce. There is an urgent need for development of a suitable literature in the form of a book dealing with recent technologies on various aspects of important vegetable crops grown in India.
The present book entitle, “Glimpses on Vegetable Science ” has been designed to fulfill the long felt need of students of Olericulture, researchers, scientists, producers covering the various key points of vegetables. Its content is basically based upon the scientific fundamentals on various aspects of vegetable cultivation including the nutritional, crop improvement, technologies on crop production, protection and post harvest management aspects in details covering the courses offered at Graduate, Post-Graduate and PhD levels in
various State Agricultural Universities with special emphasis to cover the syllabi of various competitive examinations conducted by public and private sectors.
The present book written in a very lucid language with facts and figures collected, compiled and edited from different sources including from published materials from many sources in books, bulletins, scientific literature etc. published by other authors, research workers etc. Though maximum effort has been done to ensure the authenticity of the book, the facts and figures presented solely those of the authors of various literatures consulted.
Utmost care have been take by the authors to fulfill the requirement of those students who are appearing in various competitive examinations such as JRS, SRF etc., not only seeking admission for Post Graduation and PhD examination by various Indian Universities but also for recruitment in ARS,
NET for lectureship and civil examinations.
The book will serve as a reference book for under-graduate students of Horticulture, Agriculture, Post-graduate & PhD students, vegetable growers, extension workers, horticulturists, subject matter specialists, research workers on Olericulture etc.
